I’ve probably shared this in all my blogs, but I really want to emphasize the point that college is the time to try something new and experience things that you’ve never done before. One of the things that can help you get out of your comfort zone is to create a college bucket list!
I’ve actually never written down a bucket list, but I’ve always had some things at the back of my head that I wanted to do before I graduate from college. One thing that I can finally cross off my “bucket list” this upcoming Saturday is running a half marathon.
I’ve always wanted to run either a half marathon or a marathon, but I injured my achilles in high school from running cross country and track, and it never fully healed. Although I can run short distance without any pain, after 2 or 3 miles of running, I could feel my achilles tendinitis getting worse. But recently, my achilles have been feeling much better, and so I decided to register for a half marathon for my last year in college.
When I first signed up, I decided to take it slow in case my achilles tendinitis got worse again. Fortunately, icing my achilles every other day and slowly increasing the mileage has helped my injury.
Now the day of the half marathon is only 3 days away! I can’t believe it. On the one hand, I’m super excited to run it, especially since 4 of my friends are running it with me. I’m also so thankful to have an awesome mom and roommates who will come to cheer me on. On the other hand, I’m getting pretty nervous. Last Saturday, I ran 10 miles and that was no easy 10 miles. While I know I can finish 13.1 miles, my goal is to finish it under 2 hours which is a pretty lofty goal. Hopefully, I can do it and if I don’t, well that’s okay too. I just want to have fun and run my best.
I’m sure running a half marathon is not on everyone’s bucket list, but I hope this encourages you to try something crazy as well. =)
