Food, Glorious Food!
Hot sausage and mustard!
Los Angeles is home to an amazing assortment of cultures, people, and traditions. With all that comes a huge variety of foods as well. Koreatown and Chinatown are within a 10 min drive of campus, downtown L.A. has several upscale dining establishments, and this city still reigns as the food truck capital…food is a big thing here!
New eateries are always popping up around town. While it’s not entirely new (it’s been open for about 4 years), one of the most unique places around here is called Wurstkuche (which is German for food relating to sausage). Not only does it provide the standard beer and brats, but it also offers some rather unusual options. I have tried the rattlesnake and rabbit sausage, which was actually quite tasty. Other exotic options include duck & bacon as well as an alligator & pork sausage.
There’s also a new Tex Mex place that I really want to try soon called Bar Ama. It just opened downtown, the menu looks scrumptious…definitely going there ASAP!
For a quicker paced meal, a new sandwich placed just opened up just across the street from campus. It’s called Which Wich, and its hip atmosphere and creative ordering system allow for an interactive customer experience. Restaurant patrons choose which kind of sandwich that they want, and then receive a brown paper bag and a sharpie. With the marker, guests customize their sandwich with the toppings that they want, selecting from the numerous options on the outside of the bag. I have yet to try this one too, but it’s convenient and reasonably priced, so I think I might check it out this weekend.
All this talk about food makes me really hungry…or it could be that I’m writing this right about 6:00 aka dinner time. Can’t wait to try out all of these amazing food options right here in USC’s backyard!
