After a long week of classes, midterms, and organization meetings, I really look forward to Fridays. Friday is the day when I can stop everything that I’m doing and just take a break. Although people will tell you that the weekend starts on Thursday night, to be realistic, most of us have classes on Friday. For example, in my six semesters so far at USC, I’ve only had one semester when I didn’t have a early Friday class.
So what do I usually do on a Friday night? I eat a lot. Regardless of whether it’s at a restaurant or a home, food is the center of my Friday nights. One of my favorite places to go eat is El Mercado La Paloma.
Most people haven’t heard of it but it’s a market on Grand Ave. that offers a variety of exotic foods and shops. What’s especially great about this place is that whenever you purchase something from there, it benefits the local community. The place was first created to establish community engagement and provide opportunities for local entrepreneurs.
My favorite restaurant in El Mercado La Paloma is hands down the Yucatan restaurant called Chichen Itza. For anyone who has never tried Yucutan food, you MUST go to Chichen Itza. The food is amazing! I highly recommend the Pollo Pibil dish; it comes with two pieces of chicken, fried plantains, rice, beans, and a salad. Don’t forget to check it out if you’re in the Los Angeles area!
