My Social Network
Coming to USC as a freshman, I knew some Trojans from high school, but for the most party I was put into a new situation with new people. On day one I moved into my dorm, Birnkrant. Right away people on the floor started to get to know each other. This was the first place at USC where I added to my new social network. The friendships I made in the dorm have lasted and I still live with friends I met in Birnkrant.
The next place I went to make new friends at USC was the classroom. I started to see the same students, many of whom were also Freshmen, and made friends through class. Study sessions and group projects proved to be a great opportunity for forming friendships.
A third opportunity to expand my network at USC, has been on trips abroad. Spending a week with new people in Taiwan and later a week in Honduras, I was able to really get to know some amazing new people. I highly recommend for SC students to take as many organized trips abroad as possible to see new places and meet new people.
Lastly, I was able to greatly expand my network by joining a fraternity my sophomore year. Upon joining, I immediately expanded my network by 100 or so people. These men have been great friends and a great resource for me at USC.
There are so many opportunities at USC to make friends and meet new people, all you have to do is be active. Join clubs and organizations, talk to people in class, and know the people you live with. Even those coming to USC not knowing a single person have endless opportunities to meet people and form relationships.
