One thing I’ve learned about accounting this year…

Is that accounting is not a career path reserved for people who are “reserved.” I think that people tend to have the misconception that accountants are generally on the boring end of the spectrum, and are likely lacking social skills.  I probably assumed this stereotype to be true at the beginning of the year as well…

Over the past few semesters, though, I’ve spent a great deal of time networking with accounting professionals and have found the opposite to be true.

I’m embarrassed to say that I was surprised to enjoy my time at the first networking events that I went to, because it really should not have been a surprise.  I’ve stayed in touch with many people from the major firms, and they’re all the opposite of the accountant stereotype.  There are amazingly social people in the accounting profession, and I’m having a great time getting to know them.

I’m now on track to graduate in four years with a B.S. in Accounting as well as a Masters in Accounting, and I’m excited to see where that takes me!
