THE BIGGEST GAME OF THE YEAR. (USC vs. Stanford)
There is no other game on our football schedule this season that I have been looking forward to as much as the Stanford game this Saturday. Two years ago, Stanford came down to the Coliseum and stunned Trojan nation. After a triple-overtime thriller, Andrew Luck left the stadium with his arms triumphantly raised above his head while the consistently rowdy student section stood silent. Last year, Stanford again shocked Trojan nation and ruined our BCS hopes for the season. If you haven’t caught on to the theme yet, the USC vs. Stanford games for the last two seasons have been unforgettable for all the wrong reasons. That being said, this Saturday is our chance to put an end to Stanford’s BCS hopes like they have done to us one too many times. A USC victory on Saturday makes our team bowl eligible and gives us a shot at winning the Pac-12 South.
Coming off a dominant performance against CAL, I have a good feeling about our chances to upset the country’s #4 team. Coach O has restored the “fun” environment that Pete Carroll made famous during his time at USC, and the players are responding well to the coaching change. The last three times we have faced Stanford, the game has been decided by single digits. The only difference this year is that Stanford needs a win to remain in the national championship picture. Unfortunately for the Cardinal, they’ve come to the wrong place in search of a road win.
To all USC fans who have never experienced ESPN College Game Day, they will be setting up right in McCarthy Quad. Why is that significant? It will be the first time that College Game Day will be held on campus rather than in front of the L.A. Memorial Coliseum. See you all in the Coliseum for kickoff at 5PM. (Pacific Standard Time) FIGHT ON!
