The Final Summer: What to do between High School and College
The summer between high school graduation and the start of college is both a really fun, but bittersweet experience. You’re completely done with high school and getting ready to begin a new chapter in your life…but at the same time, it’s also the last time that you’ll see your high school friends on a consistent basis and have the chance to hang out with them. That said, for my summer before college, I made sure that I was hanging out with my high school friends as much as I could because I knew that I wasn’t going to have this experience again. It’s also the time to do something fun. For me, I worked as a camp counselor at that camp I went to as a child because it not only was it an easy job (for the most part), but I also really enjoy working with kids. I knew that it would also be one of the last times (if not the last) that I would be able to have a non-serious job as I would start doing internships once in college. Being a counselor and hanging with my friends as much as I could made my summer unbelievable and looking back was the right decision.
In terms of advice for you guys as you prep for college and finalize your plans for you final “free” summer, make sure you do something fun, something that you enjoy doing and want to make sure you do at some point in your life. It’s the last chance for you to take it easy and explore interests in a nonprofessional setting, so make sure you spend as much time with your friends and family as possible, and set out to find an experience/job that you have always wanted to try. That’s what I did, and it was a great experience for me.
