Why study accounting at USC?
When I was deciding on colleges almost two years ago, one of the big factors that pushed me towards USC was the Leventhal School of Accounting. Having such a reputable accounting program, I knew that if I chose USC, I would have a fairly high chance of securing a job in the accounting profession straight out of college.
While accounting is not for everyone, I’d just like to point out the perks of being an accounting student at USC.
1. Unlike many other schools, USC brings recruiters and professionals to the students, not the other way around. We have plenty of exposure to the firms and time to interact with professionals, such as at the Summer Leadership Info Session and at Meet the Firms. Meet the Firms is a HUGE networking event held at the California Science Center where all the Big 4 firms, as well as mid-tier and smaller accounting firms, bring LOTS of professionals to get to know the USC students. They want to recruit USC students because they value the high quality education we are receiving at Leventhal.
2. By joining student organizations such as Accounting Society and Beta Alpha Psi, students can interact with professionals on a weekly basis at their general meetings.
3. We are very fortunate to have the Trojan Network and a strong reputation to help us as we go through the recruiting process. Our prime location in downtown Los Angeles, near the large accounting firms, is also a big plus!
4. In addition to the streamlined recruiting process, students at Leventhal gain a strong foundation in accounting in their classes, taught by competent and engaging professors. Students also have the option of pursuing a progressive degree in Accounting or Business Taxation, a program that can be completed within 4 years.
For those prospective accounting majors out there, choosing the Leventhal School of Accounting is definitely a smart choice.
