Winter Break – What did you do?
After another hectic semester and season of final exams, I was ready for a long break. This winter break, I went back home to Dallas, TX and spent a majority of the time with my family. This break was unusually warm, so I found myself doing more outdoorsy-type activities – I took my cousins to the park, went biking, hiked with some friends, typical summer stuff. However, all good things must come to an end, and a cold front eventually came in and I found myself cooped up with my family at my grandparents’ house to avoid the below-freezing temperatures. We played board games, watched old family videos, made a bunch of holiday treats, and just enjoyed each other’s company. College has definitely made me appreciate my family more; I think being away from home for extended periods of time really makes you miss the quirks of family – even the bad ones. I periodically did find myself needing some time for myself, where I tried to get some of my own work done.
Since school and student organizations took up so much of my time throughout the semester, I wanted to play catch-up with applying for internships and career programs. I spent a good amount of time working on cover letters and applications so that I wouldn’t have to worry about this as much throughout the spring semester. After exploring different companies and applications, I decided that I would just apply to all of them. Unfortunately, only two of them have gotten back to me. I will remain optimistic, though. Persistence and dedication will land me a job. Although I had a good break, I’m ready to get back to work.
